Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 21, 2026

Your privacy matters. This policy explains what data DeLance collects, what it does not collect, and how the decentralized nature of the Internet Computer affects your data.

1. Overview

DeLance is a decentralized application (dApp) running on the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP). By design, DeLance does not operate a traditional server, database, or backend infrastructure that we control. This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information.

2. Information Stored On-Chain

DeLance stores the following data on-chain in public smart canisters: your Internet Identity principal (a pseudonymous identifier), profile information you choose to provide (bio, skills, portfolio items), job postings you create, proposals you submit, Proof-of-Work Logs, chat messages sent through the Platform, reputation scores and reviews, escrow transaction records. This data is stored permanently on the Internet Computer blockchain and is publicly readable. We cannot delete or modify on-chain data once it is written. Do not post sensitive personal information (such as government IDs, financial account numbers, or private contact details) in any on-chain field.

3. Internet Identity

DeLance uses Internet Identity (II) for authentication — a service provided by DFINITY Foundation. We do not collect passwords, email addresses, or traditional login credentials. Your II account generates a unique pseudonymous principal identifier for DeLance that is separate from your II principals on other dApps. DeLance does not have access to your underlying II credentials.

4. Information We Do Not Collect

DeLance does not collect: your name, email address, physical address, phone number, IP address, device identifiers, cookies or tracking pixels, browsing history, or any data through third-party analytics or advertising services. We have no accounts database, no user registration system, and no central server storing your personal information.

5. How On-Chain Data Is Used

Data stored on-chain is used solely to provide the core functionality of the Platform: displaying profiles, facilitating job matches, processing escrow transactions, calculating reputation scores, and enabling communication between parties. Because all data is on-chain, it is inherently visible to anyone querying the canister, including your profile, reviews, and job history.

6. Public Nature of Blockchain Data

You acknowledge that any data you submit to DeLance — including profile information, proposals, work logs, and reviews — is written to a public blockchain and may be permanently readable by third parties. Your principal ID is a pseudonymous identifier; however, if you associate real-world identifying information with it (e.g., by including your name in your bio), that association becomes part of the public record.

7. Support Communications

If you submit a support ticket through the Platform's support chat widget, that conversation is stored on-chain and visible to the Platform administrator. Do not include sensitive personal information in support messages. Support tickets are used solely for resolving your issue and are not shared with third parties.

8. Cookies & Local Storage

DeLance uses the browser's localStorage only to store your theme preference (light/dark mode) and session state (to keep you logged in). No third-party cookies are used. No data in localStorage is transmitted to any server or third party.

9. Third-Party Services

DeLance does not integrate third-party analytics, advertising networks, or social media trackers. The Platform relies solely on Internet Computer infrastructure. The DFINITY Foundation operates the Internet Computer network — for their data practices, refer to DFINITY's own privacy documentation.

10. Data Retention & Deletion

Because data is stored on a public, immutable blockchain, DeLance cannot delete your on-chain data. If you stop using the Platform, your profile and historical records will remain on-chain indefinitely. You may overwrite mutable fields (such as your bio and skills) but historical records of transactions and reviews are permanent by design.

11. Children's Privacy

DeLance is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect or store information from minors. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a minor has used the Platform, please contact us through the support channel.

12. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights regarding your personal data. Because DeLance's data is on a public blockchain, our ability to fulfill certain requests (such as erasure) is technically limited. For requests related to off-chain data or support records, contact us through the Platform's support chat.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material updates will be communicated via the Platform. Your continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

14. Contact

For privacy-related questions or requests, please use the support chat widget available within the Platform after login.
